Kootenay National Park
There is no cell service in Kootenay National Park. Emergency telephones are available in four locations and clearly marked on highway signage.
Highway 93 South
Parks Canada will undertake essential safety and infrastructure improvements on Highway 93S in 2026.
Visitors are encouraged to:
- Budget extra travel time
- Expect delays
- Follow posted signage and directions from traffic control personnel
- Be patient while travelling through work zones

Sinclair Canyon Project overview
Sinclair Canyon Bridge Rehabilitation: this project will address critical infrastructure upgrades. This includes repairs to the Sinclair Creek Rock Tunnel near the Radium Hot Springs pools and retaining wall rehabilitation at the southwest end of Sinclair Canyon.
Construction Timeline: June – October 2026
Traffic Impacts: Motorists should expect single lane alternating traffic and delays up to 45 minutes during peak traffic periods. Before you travel, check for updated road conditions on Drive BC.
Visitor Impacts: The Village of Radium Hot Springs and the Radium Hot Springs pools will remain open throughout construction and welcomes visitors.
Trails and access that are closed during construction:
- Pedestrian Sidewalk Access from the Lower Juniper Trail Parking area to Sinclair Canyon
- Pedestrian sidewalks on both sides of Highway 93S through Sinclair Canyon
- Southbound parking area immediately north of Sinclair Canyon
- Northbound parking area approximately 150m north of Sinclair Canyon
- The pullout near the old West Gate entrance
Kootenay Crossing Bridge Project overview
This work will address critical infrastructure repairs on the bridge at km 60, near Kootenay Crossing.
Construction Timeline: June – October 2026
Traffic Impacts: Motorists should expect speed reductions. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained.
Culvert Repairs Project overview
This work will address infrastructure repairs to the culvert and associated roadway surface at km 27.5.
Construction timeline: June 2026. This work is expected to take 2-3 weeks to complete.
Traffic Impacts: Motorists should expect speed reductions and single lane alternating traffic.
