Work location
The Lake Louise, Yoho and Kootenay (LLYK) Field Unit manages three iconic national parks spanning Alberta (AB) and British Columbia (BC). We are responsible for administering:
- Yoho National Park (BC)
- Kootenay National Park (BC)
- Banff National Park (AB) from Castle junction to the AB/BC border (including Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, and the Icefields Parkway)
- Radium Hot Springs Pools (BC)
- 7 national historic sites (AB and BC)
We are located approximately 1.5 hours drive west of Calgary, Alberta.
Where to live?
We have offices located in Lake Louise (AB), Field (BC), and Radium Hot Springs (BC). The communities of Canmore (AB), Banff (AB), Golden (BC), Edgewater (BC), and Invermere (BC) are a short drive away from the office locations.
Crown-owned staff accommodations within the Lake Louise, Yoho and Kootenay Field Unit are limited and subject to availability based-on operational and management requirements, as determined by the Field Unit Superintendent. At first glance the job poster can be intimidating. take time to read through the entire poster carefully. Make sure you meet all the essential qualifications for the job. If you don’t, chances are you won’t be screened through to an interview.

Preparing your application
Get started by creating a GC jobs account.
Depending on the position you may be asked to provide the following:
- Resume: Upload your resume to your GC Jobs account. Tailor it for each job you apply for.
- Cover letter: Keep it short, no more than two pages.
- Screening questionnaire: These questions are used to ensure you meet the essential qualifications. Answer all the questions with specific examples.
Parks pro tip: There is no option for resume formatting on the GC Jobs website. We recommend removing all formatting in a word processor and reorganizing the information so it is clear without formatting. Then you can copy and paste the text into the GC Jobs application page.

Parks pro tip: Further assessments could include: presentations, written or practical tests, samples of previous work, simulations, and/or interviews. Don’t be surprised if you are asked to participate in more than just an interview!
Glossary of Parks Canada Hiring Terms
- Indeterminate: A permanent position with no fixed duration and the employee works year-round.
- Seasonal: A position with no fixed duration; however, the employee works only a certain period of time each year (i.e. in the summer).
- Term (also known as a “determinate”): a position with a fixed start and end point but no guarantee of employment beyond the dates specified.
- Area of Selection: Geographical requirement for where you must reside to be eligible to apply on an opportunity. Examples could include: “within a 250km radius of Lake Louise, AB” or “persons living in Canada.” If you apply and don’t currently live within the geographic area of selection, your application will not be considered.
