Bertha-Townsite avalanche advisory (updated daily)
Issued: December 18, 2024
Current condition: Low risk; be aware. This area is open but should be considered avalanche terrain. Smaller avalanches are still possible and are not likely to affect the townsite.
Location:
Evergreen Avenue south of Cameron Falls, Columbine Avenue, the lane at the base of Bertha Peak, the trailhead and first portion of the Bertha Falls/Lakeshore trail, as well as the west section of the Townsite Campground.
The eastern slopes of Bertha Peak have shown an increase in avalanche frequency and size due to changes in tree cover following the 2017 Kenow wildfire. Avalanches on this slope have the potential to affect structures in areas adjacent to Evergreen Avenue past Cameron Falls.
In all cases, it is important to remember that you are responsible for your own safety in avalanche terrain. Enter this area at your own risk.
