Learn-to Winter
Chambly Canal National Historic Site
Important: In 2026, the Learn-to Winter activity will take place at the Fort Chambly National Historic Site.
Parks Canada's Learn-to Winter team invites you to discover the joys of winter at Fort Chambly. Cross-country ski initiation activities for children aged 4 to 12 will be offered on weekends from January 3 to March 8, 2026. Come play outside with your family this winter!



Learn-To Cross-Country Ski
Children aged 4 to 12 can learn how to cross-country ski during a 60-minute activity in the enchanting setting of Fort Chambly National Historic Site. Children will learn the basics of cross-country skiing, as well as how to choose the right equipment. All equipment is provided: skis and boots are included in the reservation fee.
Meanwhile, parents can enjoy free use of snowshoes, fat bikes, or cross-country skis.
Schedule
Saturdays and Sundays from January 3 to March 8, 2026.
To ensure that everyone has access to our Learn-to activities, please reserve a single time slot and participate in the activity only once. Thank you for your cooperation.
- 10:00 a.m.: ages 4-6
- 11:15 a.m.: ages 7-9
- 12:30 p.m.: ages 10-12
- 1:45 p.m.: ages 4-6
- 3:00 p.m.: ages 7-9

Reservations must be made on the Parks Canada website prior to the activity. To take part in the activity, you must reserve your place on the Parks Canada reservations site.

Important information
- Please arrive 20 minutes before the activity starts.
- Wear weather-appropriate clothing.
- You must bring your own water bottle and snacks.
- Parking is available at the Fort Chambly National Historic Site.
- Access to restrooms at Fort Chambly National Historic Site.
- The activity will take place rain or shine, except in the event of heavy, sustained rain or a complete lack of snow.
How to dress for winter activities
For an enjoyable experience, wear appropriate winter clothing for the outdoors and weather conditions. In addition to a winter coat and snow pants, choose wool or polyester clothing. Remember that you will be warm during the activity. Here are some of the items you should wear:

- Good dry socks (bring an extra pair and change socks before the activity)
- Multi-layered basic clothing
- A neck warmer
- A toque
- Gloves or mittens
- Sunglasses, as needed and depending on the weather
For fat biking, we recommend:
- A hat without a pompom that allows you to put on a bicycle helmet
- Warm boots that are soft and comfortable
- Five-finger gloves to facilitate braking and gear changes
Please note that you can use your own bike helmet for the activity.
