The canal path, opened in 1977, is one of the oldest trails in the Montreal region and one of the most beautiful urban circuit in the world with its magnificent green spaces. The path is maintained from April 15 to November 15, and the historic site is open year-round.

Cycling on one of Montreal's most beautiful paths

Punctuated with parks, locks and attractions, the Lachine Canal National Historic Site path will appeal to both athletes and contemplative cyclists alike.
This 13.5-kilometre path, part of the Route Verte network, is integrated into the largest cycling route in North America and is an essential link in Montreal's cycling network.
Cyclists can ride the path from end to end in sixty minutes. Along the way, discover the vibrant Atwater Market and its fresh produce stalls, the old locks still in operation, as well as numerous waterfront parks perfect for a picnic with family or friends.
Accessible to all, the Lachine Canal trail offers landscapes that reveal Montreal's originality and dynamism, while following a waterway steeped in history.

Pedestrian trails

A trail reserved exclusively for walkers runs alongside the canal in certain sections.
This walking trail, covered with stone dust and with no significant slopes, is easily accessible to people with reduced mobility.
Discover the canal on the water

The calm waters of the Lachine Canal welcome kayakers, stand-up paddleboarders, and dragon boat enthusiasts. Bring your own non-motorized watercraft or take advantage of rental services offered by concessionaires along the route to explore the canal from a different perspective.

Public restrooms are accessible along the canal during the summer season and according to navigation hours.
