Queenston Heights National Historic Site

On a dark October day in 1812, a small force of British defenders, outnumbered six to one, met a larger American army in the first battle for the Niagara frontier. Though Major General Sir Isaac Brock and Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonell died in battle, their bravery and the courage of the British regulars, local militia and First Nation warriors are remembered today at the monument that stands on the battlefield at Queenston Heights. Today a lush green park that overlooks the Niagara gorge and the fast-flowing Niagara River, Queenston Heights is a peaceful place for family picnics and walks. Come climb the tower, visit the museum and listen for the echoes of our past.
