Point Riche LighthousePoint Riche

The end of the road is the beginning of your picnic adventure. Take in all the sights at the tip of the Point Riche Peninsula. While photographing the iconic lighthouse you’ll likely encounter caribou grazing or discover a fossil on the nearby rocks. Step inside the Dorset Doorway and capture a moment in time with the Mother and Child sculpture. Parking and toilets nearby.

How to get there: From Route 430-28 to Port au Choix: head north along Fisher Street. Turn left at Laver’s Drive. Turn right onto Point Riche Road and follow it west to the Lighthouse at the end of the road.

Phillip’s Garden trail headPhillip’s Garden trail head

Whether you’ve just walked the Coastal Trail at Phillip’s Garden or are looking for a peaceful place to rest, enjoy a scenic picnic overlooking the fishing port at Old Port aux Choix. Parking and toilets nearby.

How to get there: From Route 430-28 to Port au Choix: head north along Fisher Street and follow it to the cove at Old Port au Choix. Continue to the end of Philip Drive on the left.

Gathering CircleGathering Circle

Gather around the picnic table at a special meeting place in the heart of Port au Choix. Walk into the Gathering Circle and learn about the Maritime Archaic people’s ancient presence here. The area is also home to the French Rooms Cultural Centre. Parking and washrooms nearby.

How to get there: 83 Fisher Street, Port au Choix From Route 430-28 to Port au Choix: head north along Fisher Street. Turn left at sign for the Maritime Archaic sacred burial grounds.

Barbace Cove

Bring your blanket and make the perfect picnic at Barbace Cove. There’s a chance to enjoy fresh baked bread at the French Bread Oven near the beginning of the Barbace Cove trail head.

How to get there: From Route 430-28 to Port au Choix: head north along Fisher Street and follow it to the cove at Old Port au Choix. Continue to the end of Forest Road on the right. Follow the 2 km coastal trail north then east to Barbace Cove.

Crow HeadCrow Head

Work up an appetite! After hiking the Dorset Trail pause for a picnic at the top of Crow Head. Experience panoramic views overlooking Phillip’s Garden.

How to get there: From Route 430-28 to Port au Choix: head north along Fisher Street. Turn left at Laver’s Drive. Turn right onto Point Riche Road and follow it to the Visitor Centre. From there take the Dorset Trail north to Crow Head.
