Parka Party | Adventure Place | On-Site Activities | Fort Parka
Join us for a Parka Party!
Hey kids! Join Parks Canada at The Forks this summer to play, learn and explore with Parka. Free programming will be offered daily from July 2 to Sept. 1.
Parka Aerobics - 10:30 am and 1:30 pm
Flap your wings and stomp your paws with Parka. Staying active has never been so easy!
Parkaeology - 11:30 am and 2:30 pm
Parka’s no stranger to digging in the dirt. Help her discover what secrets lie beneath our feet.
Beaver Club Animators - 10 am to 4:30 pm
Join the Parks Canada team at the Fort Parka craft table for a fun new activity every day of the week!
Monday:
Thread to the End!: Beading and bracelets
Use giant beads to bring a colourful dragonfly to life, creating a new species at the site. Don’t forget to craft your own bracelet of pony beads to bring home with you and wear anytime!
Tuesday:
Roll to Play: “Floods & Fortunes” game and colouring pages
Jump into our life-sized board game — a prairie adaptation of Chutes and Ladders — that travels through the history of The Forks National Historic Site.
After that, come colour Parka, our beaver mascot who loves to travel!
Wednesday:
Weaving Through Time: Wool carding and mini sashes
From sheep to fleece, discover with your own “hooves” how wool is made, from the fluffy white puffs to stretched coloured string!
Brush, spin and weave to “herd” the wool into your own mini bracelet sash with rows of rainbows!
Thursday:
Red River Prairie Living: Bison parts and Red River lots
Animals like farm creatures and bison play an important part of our environments.
Reach out and touch the life-sized plastic bison to learn how its various parts are put to practical use.
Or come help put our small farm animals and place them properly in their new home on a Red River lot.
Friday:
Historic Pastimes: Build-a-Fort, Ball in cup and Musical Spoons
Way back when, people didn’t have television to keep them entertained after a long day, so they needed to use other tools to have fun!
These new farmers need your help to build their homes: use the logs to piece together a secure mini-wooden box for them to live in.
Love playing, dancing or listening to music? Grab a musical spoon and tap your knee for an exciting beat!
Saturday:
Ready, Set, Fun!: Face painting and leg wrestling
Do you want to look like a butterfly, a frog, or a superhero? Come join us to have your face painted with any image that you want from our collection of fun and pretty designs.
And come show off your leg strength in our Jambette leg wrestling competition, to see who’s the strongest out of all your friends!
Sunday:
Uncover the Treasure: Artifact Bingo and colouring pages
Bingo! You connected the rows to discover special artifacts that were used hundreds of years ago. Learn all about these items and how to use them.
After that, come colour Parka, our beaver mascot who loves to travel!
Adventure Place
Pop by Adventure Place for all sorts of interactive activities like a touch table, fun facts, and more! Free programming will be offered daily from 10 am to 4:30 pm from July 2 to Sept. 1. While you’re there, grab an Xplorer or Club Parka booklet for games and puzzles related to The Forks.
