Ivvavik National Park

To travel to Ivvavik National Park, your journey begins in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. With a population of approximately 3,450, this town is the regional centre of the Western Arctic where you will find the Parks Canada office as well as other amenties.

At the Parks Canada office, visitors can:

  • Participate in an orientation session before entering the national parks (this is mandatory of all visitors, researchers, and anyone entering the park);
  • Register and deregister your trip in the park;
  • Purchase fishing permits for the national park;
  • Purchase souvenirs and official merchandise including adorable muskox stuffed animals and coffee;

Directions

Charter aircraft is presently the most common and practical means of accessing the park. Aircraft charter services are available from Inuvik , located 200 kilometres east of the park. Inuvik, population 3,450, is the largest community in the region and is serviced by the Dempster Highway and by daily flights from southern Canada.
