    Duties

    This position provides technical support for the asset maintenance program for the Western Arctic Field Unit. At the field unit’s Pingos Canadian Landmark field work consists of the opening and closing of the Day Use Area. Duties at this location include, installing and removing of the docks, solar batteries and getting the portable washroom system running, maintaining the boardwalk and working with the community of Tuktoyaktuk. At the field unit’s Ivvavik Base Camp (Sheep Creek) location field work consists of opening and closing of the back country utility system. There are generators, pumps, an incinerator, a Bobcat, a solar powered UTV to maintain as well as numerous other tasks necessary in maintaining the beautiful Sheep Creek Camp. You and the small assets team will be kept busy rain or shine! This position will also support the maintenance of a small fleet of vehicles along with 6 housing units in Inuvik. Working with the Western Arctic Field Unit’s assets team might be the perfect job for you if you enjoy both working with your hands as well as solving problems from a desk.

    EDUCATION:

      Post Secondary, technology diploma in a related field, or acceptable combination of education, training, and experience relevant to the position.

      Degree equivalency

    EXPERIENCE:

    EXP 1 – Experience in conducting inspections that pertain to building construction or maintenance;

    EXP 2 – Experience in scheduling, organizing, and providing routine asset maintenance services;

    EXP 3 – Experience managing contracts in the maintenance or construction of assets;

    EXP 4 – Experience using computer software as a tool for project management, contract administration, communication with stakeholders or managing technical records. (Maximo, Word, Excel etc).

    KNOWLEDGE:

    K 1 – Knowledge of general work procedures, preventive maintenance measures, workplace health and safety procedures;

    K 2 – Knowledge of procedures to complete facility inspection, determine maintenance and recapitalization work;

    K 3 – Knowledge of vehicle and small equipment maintenance and safety requirements.

    ABILITIES:

    A 1 – Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including the ability to write scopes of work for contracts; and to communicate requirements to a variety of technical and operational stakeholders in a clear and unambiguous manner;

    A 2 – Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications;

    A 3 – Ability to analyze problems in a variety of operational situations and develop and implement solutions through contracts or work plans;

    A 4 – Ability to prioritize work.

    OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    – Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform.

    – Willingness to take mandatory training related to the job as required, including but not limited to First Aid, CPR, and WHMIS.

    – Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required.

    – Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation.

    – Willingness to work from various locations.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    – Obtain and maintain a reliability security clearance with fingerprints.

    – Maintenance of a valid Class 5 driver’s license.

    – When position is in an area classed as isolated and remote, a pre-employment medical examination of an individual and his/her dependents may be required.
