Project updates

In January and February, enclosed scaffolding was installed around the building footprint in preparation for the pour of the concrete slab. Installation of the hydronic piping floor was completed. Crews continued installing reinforcing steel in preparation for the upcoming pour.

In March, crews poured the concrete slab and completed concrete cutting work.

In April, the slab cured and insulated tarping was removed. Temporary scaffolding was taken down. The first lay of asphalt paving of the parking lot was completed.

In May, delivery and installation of the wooden “glulam” beams began, alongside framing of the exterior walls. Crews also poured concrete for the adjacent sidewalks and placed topsoil as part of the initial landscaping works.

In October and November, the parking lot became more defined as grading was completed and new curbs were installed. Crews also placed insulation and radon barriers under the future floor and began installing the building’s hydronic heating lines and structural steel.

In December, the main hydronic line was installed and tested, and work continued on the remaining heating lines and reinforcing steel in preparation for the concrete slab pour.

Zoo Road Day Use Area and parking lot are also closed to accommodate construction of the new visitor, learning and community centre. Parking is also not permitted along Zoo Road and will be enforced.
