Travel advisory for Highway 5 within Wood Buffalo National Park

October 11, 2022, FORT SMITH, NT – Due to current weather conditions, Parks Canada recommends caution when travelling Highway 5 within Wood Buffalo National Park.

Today’s weather has brought the first snow this season to areas along Highway 5. Sections of the highway are snow-covered, and with temperatures hovering around freezing, travellers can expect icy, slushy conditions throughout the day and into the evening.

There is additional mixed precipitation in the forecast overnight and these temperatures and weather conditions are expected to continue for the next several days.

Temperatures below freezing and the presence of snow and ice make driving conditions more difficult. Please drive with caution while travelling Highway 5 through Wood Buffalo National Park. Get up-to-date road conditions on Wood Buffalo National Park’s Roads website or by calling 867-872-7960.
