Wood Buffalo National Park
WINTER ROAD THROUGH WOOD BUFFALO NATIONAL PARK NOW OPEN

FORT SMITH, NT / FORT CHIPEWYAN, AB, December 18, 2024 — The Fort Smith to Fort Chipewyan Winter Road through Wood Buffalo National Park is now open for the season. Please note that there is a weight limit of 5,000 kg and a speed limit of 15 km/h on the ice bridges.
Travelling on the winter road requires extra caution and preparation. It is strongly recommended that only 4x4 and AWD vehicles use the winter road at this time. Before departure, be sure to check the weather forecast, ensure that you have the appropriate safety equipment, and inform someone of your travel plans and estimated arrival time. While driving the ice road, be sure to drive with care and watch for heavy equipment.
