Topographic Maps

For canoeing the Hornaday River, 1:250,000 topographic maps are adequate. The maps that cover the entire length of the Hornaday River are: 97A (Erly Lake) and 97D (Brock River).

For hiking in Tuktut Nogait, 1:50,000 scale topographic maps of your hiking route are recommended.

Note : The boundaries of Tuktut Nogait National Park are not yet marked on most topographic maps.

In accordance with Section 7 of the National Parks General Regulations, food caching is permitted, but restricted, in Tuktut Nogait National Park.

Food caching in Tuktut Nogait National Park must be authorized by the Field Unit Superintendent. If you are interested in caching food, please complete a Food Caching Request Form.

Food caching for extended wilderness trips will be permitted under the following conditions:

• An authorization is obtained from the Field Unit Superintendent;
• Foods must be cached in a certified bear proof container;
• The name and address of the party must be clearly marked on or attached to the bear proof containers.

Parks Canada has a limited number of bear proof containers for rent, free of charge. If you are contemplating food caching in the park, contact the Park Office in Paulatuk well in advance of your intended departure date.
