Temporary Campground Closures at Cape Breton Highlands National Park Ahead of Hurricane Lee

TEMPORARY CAMPGROUND CLOSURES AT CAPE BRETON HIGHLANDS NATIONAL PARK AHEAD OF HURRICANE LEE

CHETICAMP, NOVA SCOTIA, SEPTEMBER 14, 2023 – In anticipation of Hurricane Lee, Parks Canada advises visitors of the temporary closures at all front and back-country campgrounds within/at Cape Breton Highlands National Park. As a precaution, all campgrounds and programming will close as of noon on Friday, September 15th and will reopen on Monday, September 18th. Parks Canada is carefully monitoring the situation and the closure will be re-assessed if needed.

Guests with pre-existing reservations will be contacted and will be refunded their accommodation fees within the next few days.

Visitor safety is of the utmost importance for Parks Canada. This closure will remain in place until conditions are safe and will be re-evaluated if needed. Parks Canada is also carefully monitoring any possible impacts on other national historic sites on Cape Breton Island. Visitors are asked to contact sites directly before visiting this weekend at 902-224-2306.
