Salt marsh trail
Kouchibouguac National Park
Distance: 0.9 km loop
Time: 30 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Habitat: Salt marsh, forest, estuary
This trail is a short loop through an area that is representative of salt marshes around the Gulf of St. Lawrence and typical of the salt marsh habitat in Kouchibouguac National Park.
Here’s your chance to visit – from the comfort of a boardwalk – a wet, soggy, mosquito-infested area that few people ever see.
Leave your bicycle in the rack, put on some insect repellant, and experience this ecological zone firsthand.
Be Prepared!
Know your physical limits
Kouchibouguac’s wilderness is famous for its hiking and bicycle trails. Choose a trail that is challenging but enjoyable for you.
Pack for comfort and safety
A sweater and a windbreaker are good insurance against variable weather. We recommend footwear with good traction and support. Pack fresh water and a snack, even if you’re planning a short hike.
Plan your route and stick to it
Let someone know where you plan on hiking and your estimated time of return.
Stay on marked trails
For your own safety and to preserve the ecological integrity of our park.
Leave no trace
Please carry out all garbage, yours and any you may find on the trail.
