RESTRICTED ACTIVITY

 

Restriction on the use of non-motorized watercraft, fishing equipment and waterrelated gear except to holders of a valid Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Prevention Permit.

 

WHAT: Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National
Parks General Regulations, of the Canada National
Parks Act, the following activity is restricted or
prohibited by order of the Superintendent:


All non-motorized watercraft, fishing equipment and waterrelated gear that enter park waters must either:
- Undergo a staffed inspection by Parks Canada
watercraft inspectors and possess a valid AIS
Prevention Inspection Permit; or
- Comply with Clean Drain Dry requirements and
possess a valid AIS Prevention Self-Certification
Permit.

“Non-motorized watercraft” means: any boat, canoe, kayak,raft, stand-up paddleboard, inflatable, or other type or class
of vessel that is not motorized.
“Fishing equipment” means: fishing rods, tackle, waders, wading boots, gloves, nets, or any other type of fishing equipment that comes into contact with water or animal material.
“Water-related gear” means personal floatation devices, throw bags, water shoes, wetsuits, or any other type of recreational gear that comes in contact with the water.


 

WHERE: All waterbodies within Kootenay National Park at all times.

WHY: To prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.

PENALTY: Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty
$25 000.
