Fire Ban

Pursuant to Section 3 (1)(c) of the National Parks of Canada Fire Protection Regulations, the starting and/or maintaining of any open flame fires within Gulf Islands National Park Reserve is prohibited by order of the Superintendent of the National Park Reserve.
PROHIBITED:
This fire ban includes ALL campfires, charcoal briquettes, torches, candles, and use of outdoor wood burning stoves including cooking shelters.
EXEMPTIONS:
Provided they are under direct supervision and CSA approved or UL certified:
Propane or gas fueled stovesand BBQs exclusivelydesigned for cooking
Portable propane fire pits
Propane or gas fueled lanterns(enclosed flame)
Catalytic or infrared style heaters
WHERE: The Gulf Islands National Park Reserve fire ban has been extended to include SMONEĆTEN and Prior Centennial campgrounds. A year-round campfire ban exists in all other areas of the Park Reserve.
WHY: To ensure public safety and the protection of natural resources.
WHEN: From May 7, 2026, at 1200h, until further notice.
PENALTY: Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25,000.
