A fire ban has now been issued for all Jasper National Park

What:

Pursuant to section 3(1)(c) of the National Parks of Canada Fire Protection Regulations, the starting and/ or maintaining of fires within Jasper National Park of Canada is hereby PROHIBITED by order of the Superintendent, Jasper National Park of Canada.

This fire ban includes ALL open fires, EXCEPT, provided they are under direct supervision and certified by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC):

• portable propane fire pits
• gas or propane stoves and barbeques designed for cooking or heating
• propane or gas-fuelled lanterns (enclosed flame)
• patio heaters (propane, catalytic or infrared/radiant)

Where:

This fire ban covers the entire national park including all frontcountry and backcountry campgrounds and day-use areas in Jasper National Park. A fire ban is in place for the Jasper townsite, issued by the Municipality of Jasper.

Why:

The current hot and dry weather in Jasper National Park has increased the Fire Danger Rating to EXTREME. Unseasonably dry conditions persist, creating a high risk of wildfires. Implementing a fire ban will reduce the likelihood of human-caused wildfires, ensuring the safety of visitors, residents and wildlife. 

Penalty:

It is an offence under the Canada National Parks Act to contravene these prohibitions. Failure to comply may result in immediate cancellation of the camping permit, eviction from the campground and violators may be charged.
