Travel by motor vehicles is restricted on Moraine Lake Road

Where: Moraine Lake Road, Banff National Park
Why: To ensure safe access and egress into and out of the area.
What: Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, of the Canada National Parks Act, and Section 16(1)(f) of the National Parks Highway Traffic Regulations, the following activity is restricted or prohibited by order of the Superintendent:
Travel by motor vehicles is restricted on Moraine Lake Road.
Exceptions permitted June 1 – October 13, 2025:
- Commercial vehicle operators who have a valid Moraine Lake Road Licence of Occupation or After Hours On-call Transportation Service Licence;
- Parks Canada shuttles;
- Personal vehicles displaying a valid, government-issued accessible parking placard;
- Registered guests, staff and contractors of Moraine Lake Lodge;
- Emergency services.
All other vehicles not meeting these exemptions are prohibited.
Penalty: Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
