Bear Warning: Skoki trails

WHAT: Special caution is recommended while travelling in this area due to the following:
WHERE: Skoki trails including Skoki Lodge, Hidden Lake, Merlin Meadows, Baker Lake, Red Deer Lakes, Deception Pass, and Cotton Grass Pass. See attached map.
WHY: A grizzly bear is frequenting the area. Be prepared to encounter a bear at any time. Bear is exhibiting bold and curious behaviour, including close approaches to people and campsites.
Be prepared to encounter a bear at anytime in and around this area. Safe practices include:
• Hiking parties recommended to travel in a group size of four or more.
• All food, pet food and anything with odours must always be closely attended or stored securely in food storage locker or by hanging them from the food poles in backcountry campsites.
• Pay attention for bears when travelling in this area.
• Make noise when hiking.
• Keep pets on leash and a close eye on children.
• Carry bear spray and know how to use it.
Report all bear sightings immediately to the Visitor Centre or Banff Dispatch at 403-762-1470
