Banff Field Unit

WHAT:  Pursuant to Section 36(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, of the Canada National Parks Act, the following area is closed to all traffic and travel by order of the Superintendent:
WHERE: Closure includes: 1) the area between Trans-Canada Highway, Compound Road, Banff Avenue; 2) area southwest of Compound Road, bounded by Banff Avenue and the Town of Banff Municipal Boundaries; and 3) area east of Banff Avenue bounded by the height of land north of Tunnel Mountain campgrounds and the Trans-Canada Highway.

The following areas will remain open: the Legacy Trail, the leasehold boundaries of Rocky Mountain Resort, Mountain View Barbeque, Banff Light Horse Association, and Parks Canada barn.
WHY: To ensure public safety during prescribed fire operations
PENALTY:  Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
