Parks Canada invites children aged 6 to 17 to enjoy free fishing lessons at the Saint-Ours Canal this summer!

Activity details

During the Learn-to Fish activity, youngsters will be introduced to the basics of fishing, the biology of fish, the ethics of fishing, and the regulations and safety of fishing in Quebec. Afterwards, fishing techniques such as light casting, hooking and reeling will be demonstrated. Finally, they will learn how to set up their fishing line, and enjoy 45 minutes of this fun sport in the company of the Parks Canada team.

Equipment Provided

All fishing equipment, including rod, bait and flotation vest is provided. Each participant will also receive a fishing permit valid until the age of 18 at the end of the activity.

Important information

- Please arrive 15 minutes before the activity starts
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Wear weather-appropriate clothing
- You must bring your own water bottle, hat, sunscreen and snacks
- Restrooms, refreshment stands and picnic tables are available nearby
- Attention cyclists: bike racks are available for participants. Bring your own lock.
- The activity is not recommended for people who are afraid of water
- The activity is not suitable for people with reduced mobility
Animals are not allowed

Accompanying persons wishing to go fishing must bring their own equipment and make sure they have a valid fishing permit.
