Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site

Launch of the 2022 season at the Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site

Issued: June 16, 2022

From June 18 to September 5, 2022, the Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site will welcome visitors who will have to prepare for a “dangerous journey” set in 1760.  The secrets of the final naval battle between France and Great Britain on North American soil will be revealed to them. True to its reputation, the imposing Machault, a 26-gun sailing ship, will leave no one indifferent.

In addition, visitors will discover a birch bark canoe made by Mi’gmaq artisans and find answers to these questions and more: How long does it take to make a canoe?  How many people could get on board?

For the 2022 season, they will have the chance to enjoy a new outdoor exhibition thanks to the return of the Rencontres de la photographie en Gaspésie. From July 15 to September 30, 2022, the eighth art will shine even more brightly on this site, whose enchanting setting lends itself perfectly to the exhibition “John Max: The Cast Image.”

The famous red chairs, synonymous with time for oneself, the well-concealed geocaches, the iNaturalist application, to have nature at one’s fingertips, as well as the very entertaining Club Parka and Xplorers booklets (distributed again this year) will enhance their visit.

Parks Canada follows the advice, guidance and requirements of public health experts and encourages visitors to continue to follow the measures in place, protect themselves, and exercise caution to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The dynamic team of the Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site awaits you at 9 a.m. this Saturday. Don’t miss this event!
