Green Gables Heritage Place

Parking

  • Parking at Green Gables Heritage Place is free.  There are spaces close to the Visitor Information Centre available for visitors with limited mobility. 
  • There are three Tesla and three J-1772 electric vehicle chargers available for visitor use.

  • The walkway to the front door is a gentle slope consisting of pavement and brick.
  • The entrance to the Visitor Information Centre has wide and welcoming front doors that open automatically on approach. 
  • There is an exterior door that leads directly to the gift shop.

Inside the Visitor Centre

  • From the main entryway, there is a large desk where Parks Canada staff will greet visitors entering the Visitor Information Centre. The desk can be accessed from both sides by visitors. 
  • The spacious area directs visitors to the interior entrance to the gift shop and interpretive exhibits.  The gift shop entrance is wide open with no doors.  There is a low ramp that leads to the interpretive panels and displays. 
  • Washrooms feature a wide entrance with no doors or physical barriers to enter the room.

Washrooms

  • Public washrooms are located inside the Visitor Information Centre and in the barnyard. 
  • There is a short ramp to the barnyard washrooms.

Green Gables House

  • There is a wheelchair ramp with railings at the rear entrance to the house.
  • The walkway to the front door is flat concrete.
  • The front entrance has been widened since it's original size. There is a small lip at the threshold. 
  • The first floor of the house has several rooms to explore. Doorways between each room may be tight. 
  • The stairs to the second floor are steep but short and have a railing. 
  • Colour photographs of the second floor rooms are available for visitors who remain downstairs.

The grounds and trails around Green Gables House

  • The paths and walkways on the grounds are flat with hard packed dirt or fine gravel. 
  • Entrance to the barn has a ramp on both the front and back side. 
  • The doorway to the cafe is level with the walkway with an automatic door. 
  • Balsam Hollow Trail and Lovers Lane begins at the far side of Green Gables House.  It is hard packed gravel with some gentle hills and wooden bridges. The trails are considered easy with an 800 meter return. 
  • The Haunted Wood trail begins just beyond the front lawn of Green Gables House.  The beginning of the trail has steep stairs going down a hill towards a wooden bridge.  The remainder of the trail is hard packed gravel with several hills and considered an easy 900 meter loop. 
  • *Please note that the trails on site are not wheelchair accessible.
