Info-work: Intermittent Delays Expected for Boat Traffic at Lock 25 Sawers Creek Dam at Lock 25 Replacement

Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

Lakefield, Ontario, July 16, 2021 – Parks Canada advises boaters to expect intermittent delays at Sawers Creek Dam at Lock 25 over the next month as contractors demolish the remaining piers and spillways of the old dam.

Boat traffic will be temporarily held upstream at Lock 26 and downstream at Lock 24 prior to each detonation to ensure public and worker safety at the site. Boating traffic may resume only once notice is given that the site is clear and safe after the detonation is complete. Please exercise caution, respect working crews and equipment, and obey signage and flag persons in the area.

The replacement of Sawers Creek Dam at Lock 25 is part of the Government of Canada’s Federal Infrastructure Investment program and includes a full replacement of the dam and a new log lifter, as well as improvements to water management capacity and operator safety. Work is progressing well and is expected to be complete in winter 2021.

Parks Canada is leading important infrastructure work to ensure safe, high-quality experiences for visitors by improving heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas, including along the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site. We appreciate your patience while we undertake these important investments into the waterway infrastructure.
