Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

Temporary Bridge Closure: Warsaw Swing Bridge, Parkhill Road Peterborough

Issued: September 18, 2020

Peterborough, Ontario, September 18, 2020 – Parks Canada would like to inform the public that the Warsaw Swing Bridge, located on Parkhill Road East (between Armour Road and Television Road), will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic over the winter months. The bridge will be closed on October 5, pending Contractor submissions, and will open in the spring of 2021, prior to the opening of navigation on the Trent-Severn Waterway. The work is not expected to affect boat traffic.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to follow detour signage, and alter routes across the canal accordingly, to ease congestion in the City: Eastbound traffic will be detoured to Nassau Mills Road; westbound traffic will be detoured to Landsdowne St.

* Parkhill Road East will be closed at the swing bridge only; access to local businesses will remain open.

Engineering inspections in recent years have indicated that this bridge is nearing the end of its useful life. Parks Canada is leading this important infrastructure work along the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site to ensure safe, high-quality experiences for visitors by improving heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas.
