Temporary Closure: Brass Point Swing Bridge
Issued: December 10, 2024
Ends: December 23, 2024
DECEMBER 10, 2024 – SMITHS FALLS, ON – Parks Canada is advising the public of the temporary closure of the Brass Point Swing Bridge in Seeley’s Bay for essential geotechnical drilling. This work will confirm soil stability and assess structural components as part of the bridge’s ongoing design project. It is part of the Government of Canada’s investment in Parks Canada’s infrastructure to support heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets across national historic sites, parks, and marine conservation areas.
The full closure is planned for December 17, 18 and 19, 2024, and will last for the full three days. The bridge will remain completely closed during this time, as drilling equipment will block the bridge throughout the operations.
An alternative route will be available during the bridge closure, and detour signage will be installed. Travellers are encouraged to plan accordingly.
Additional road surface drilling on either side of the bridge will happen on December 16 and 20, under single-lane traffic controls. While the bridge itself accommodates only one lane of traffic, signage and pylons will be in place to guide vehicles safely during this phase.
Parks Canada appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as we complete this critical work to ensure the long-term safety and reliability of the Brass Point Swing Bridge.
