FireSmart in Action at Tłı̨ǫɂehdá!
Saoyú-ʔehdacho National Historic Site

The Northwest Territories (NWT) FireSmart program is designed to help communities reduce the risk of wildfire damage through proactive planning and actions. It encourages residents, businesses, and organizations to manage vegetation, maintain defensible space, and use fire-resistant building materials. Education and community projects are central to the program, ensuring that everyone understands their role in wildfire prevention. Parks Canada supports FireSmart practices in its northern sites, working with local partners to protect people, property, and cultural landscapes. For information or guidance on FireSmart within the Western Arctic region, contact the Parks Canada office in Inuvik at infoinuvik-inuvikinfo@pc.gc.ca.
