James Douglas: A Multicultural Legacy
Discover the fascinating legacy of Sir James Douglas, the first governor of British Columbia, who was sworn in at Fort Langley on November 19, 1858. Born in Guyana to a Creole mother and a Scottish father, and later marrying Métis woman, Amelia Connolly, Douglas’s diverse heritage has left a lasting impact on BC's cultural landscape.
Join us on Saturday, September 21, for a day of learning and celebration. In partnership with the Guyanese Association, this event will offer a unique opportunity to explore our shared history, honor cultural diversity, and reflect on the complexities of Douglas’s legacy. There will be guest speakers, Caribbean Indigenous fusion food for sale, culture performances, and more.
