Update on increased onsite presence

Hi everyone,

As announced on February 5, 2026, all executives arerequired to work onsite five days per week effective May 4, 2026. The Government has now confirmed that, as of July 6, 2026, all other employees eligible for hybrid work will be required to work onsitefour days per week. Many federal public servants are already onsite full-time based on the nature of their work.

Following the February announcement, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat met with bargaining agents to seek input on how to implement this plan to best support employees. These conversations focused on priorities such as providing adequate workspace and equipment, meeting our duty to accommodate obligations, and ensuring appropriate health and safety at work.

A strong theme that emerged from these sessions was the importance of assigned seating to the extent possible to support teamwork. As a result, Parks Canada is adopting an assigned seating model where appropriate and aligned with operating context.

We are moving forward with the implementation of assigned seating in our Gatineau office and select satellite offices. For satellite offices where space constraints are anticipated, such as Vancouver and Halifax, mitigation strategies such as desk-sharing arrangements are currently being developed. Details will be communicated before July 6.

Seating in Field Unit Offices will continue to be managed by the Field Unit Superintendent as usual and functional guidance from Workplace Solutions remains available upon request.

While we will do our utmost to ensure as smooth a transition and implementation as possible, there will undoubtedly still be some challenges as we move forward. Please don’t hesitate to lean on your colleagues or the wellness resources available to you during this time. I know changes like this take real adjustment, and I’m grateful for the thoughtful way Parks Canada team members approach them.
