Public Servants Disclosure Protect Act
Hello everyone,
Parks Canada’s Values and Ethics Code and the Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector are foundational to upholding public trust and ensuring a professional, respectful, and accountable public service. Ethical behaviour is not merely an expectation – it is a commitment that we all share as public servants.
However, there may come a be time when we become aware of wrongdoing and, as public servants, we want to ensure there is a safe and trusted way to take action without fear of reprisal. A key mechanism that enables us to uphold this culture of trust and accountability is the Public Servants Disclosure Protection Act (PSDPA). This Act establishes a formal framework that allows public servants to disclose wrongdoing safely and confidentially, and ensures that disclosures are handled in a fair, secure, and responsible manner.
The PSDPA outlines the options available to public servants who wish to make a disclosure. Employees may disclose wrongdoing to their supervisor or to the designated Senior Integrity Officer at Parks Canada, Lila Turenne. Employees may also disclose directly to the Office of the Public Sector Integrity Commissioner , or to the Office of the Auditor General in specific circumstances.
I encourage all employees to familiarize themselves with these protections and the disclosure options available to them. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact your Values and Ethics team.
Best regards,
LiLa Turenne
