Announcement – Deployment of Nathan Cardinal – Director, Indigenous Policy

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the deployment of Nathan Cardinal to the position of Director, Indigenous Policy, within the Indigenous Stewardship and Cultural Heritage Directorate, effective January 15, 2026.

Nathan began his career in the federal public service in 2006 as a Park Warden at Gulf Islands National Park Reserve (NPR). Over the years, he has held various roles at Gulf Islands NPR, including Resource Conservation Manager, as well as positions within the Protected Areas Establishment and Conservation Directorate and the Indigenous Stewardship and Cultural Heritage Directorate. Since January 2025, he has been performing the functions of Director, Indigenous Policy.

Nathan holds a master’s degree in Environmental Studies from Dalhousie University and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of British Columbia. Nathan is Métis and has had the opportunity to learn from and work with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis.
