1. How do I apply?

Here are the different ways you can apply:

  • Check out the map on the Parks Canada Students Jobs page. Click on the marker for the province or territory where you'd like to work and you can view the student employment opportunities or job fairs that are currently available in the region.
  • Visit the www.jobs.gc.ca webpage and search for jobs at Parks Canada.
  • Local Parks Canada student job fairs advertised on www.jobs.gc.ca or through your local schools.
  • You can also apply through the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP). Parks Canada makes use of this program to hire some of its students.

2. When I apply, am I considered for all opportunities?

This depends on where you apply:

  • If you apply on FSWEP, you will be able to identify for which location(s) you are interested. Note that when applying on FSWEP you are not only applying for student jobs at Parks Canada, but for students jobs for the entire Government of Canada.
  • If you apply on a Parks Canada student poster through www.jobs.gc.ca, then you are applying for the student job(s) identified on that specific poster. You should apply on each poster for which you are interested.
  • If you are attending a local Parks Canada student job fair, then you are applying for the student job(s) identified for the specific job fair.

3. What kind of jobs are available at Parks Canada?

4. Who is eligible?

Are you a full-time student at a Canadian high school, CEGEP or registered post-secondary institution? Are you returning to full-time studies in the fall? Are you old enough to work in your province or territory, available for the whole summer and ready for an adventure? If you answered yes to all of these, then you're eligible to apply and we're excited to hear from you.

5. Do I have to be a student/return to school to apply?

Yes. Parks Canada's full time summer positions are only open to students who will be returning to school in the fall. If you are in the last year of your study program and do not intend to continue full-time studies in the following semester, you remain eligible only for part-time student jobs until you have completed your last semester of full-time studies.

6. As an international student, can I apply?

You must have a legal status to work in Canada to be able to work for Parks Canada (Canadian citizenship, permanent resident status or work permit.)

7. What is the period of employment?

This will vary depending on the location and the type of student employment. Normally, starting after the spring semester and finishing before their fall semester. As a Parks Canada summer employee, you can expect to work a varied schedule including holidays, weekends and overtime.

8. How is the salary identified?

Parks Canada is committed to supporting educational pursuits and rewarding educational attainment, as such our pay structure for students, in keeping with Government of Canada guidelines, reflects the level of education you have attained. Other factors, including previous Parks Canada work experience and other relevant experience can also be taken into account.

9. When would I have my first pay?

As with all Government of Canada employees, Parks Canada team members are paid in arrears. You will be paid on a bi-weekly basis on Wednesdays and will receive your first pay approximately 4 weeks after starting your employment with Parks Canada. (Example: Pay day is on Wednesday, May 31 - for period worked from Thursday, May 4 to Wednesday, May 17).

10. When I apply, am I considered for all opportunities?

This depends on where you apply:

  • If you apply on FSWEP, you will be able to identify for which location(s) you are interested. Note that when applying on FSWEP you are not only applying for student jobs at Parks Canada, but for students jobs for the entire Government of Canada.

11. What do I need to do to apply?

Here are different things you can do:

  • Visit the www.jobs.gc.ca webpage and search for jobs at Parks Canada.
  • Apply on FSWEP since Parks Canada makes use of this program to hire some of our students.

12. If I move, are there support services to find a place to stay?

You will be responsible for finding your own living accommodation if you need to move for your student job.

13. Do I have to be bilingual to work at Parks Canada?

Not all student positions at Parks Canada have bilingualism as a requirement. This will vary depending on the specific student job.

14. Do I need to have my fingerprints done to be hired? Where would that take place?

All new hires require electronic fingerprinting, which is now standard for Parks Canada security screening. This depends on where you are. Fingerprinting facilities may be available at the Parks Canada job fair you attend, but you might also be asked to present yourself at a nearby Parks Canada or Commissionaires office or the local RCMP, OPP or Sûreté du Québec detachment.

However, if you have worked in the Public Service during the past two years and have undergone a valid security screening that can be confirmed, you may not need to be fingerprinted again.
