Why are These Plans Important?

Parks Canada manages Riding Mountain National Park including Wasagaming on behalf of all Canadians. We have a responsibility to protect the park's natural and cultural heritage while providing meaningful opportunities for people to experience and enjoy it.

Planning helps us set priorities, make informed decisions, and respond to changing needs and opportunities.

The process also provides an opportunity to strengthen relationships, advance reconciliation, and work together to shape a healthy, vibrant, and sustainable future for the entire park.

How Decisions Are Made

Developing these plans means balancing many considerations, including research and evidence, Indigenous rights, knowledge and perspectives, legislation, policy direction, operational needs, public safety, accessibility, collaboration opportunities, emerging trends, and long-term sustainability.

Your feedback plays an important role in this process. The ideas, experiences, and priorities you share help us understand what matters most and inform decision-making as we develop the plans.

Management Plan and Community Plan

While connected, the two plans serve distinct purposes.

Riding Mountain National Park Management Plan

Sets the long-term vision and strategic direction for the entire national park.

Wasagaming Community Plan

Guides how Wasagaming will evolve and continue to support visitors while aligning with the broader direction of the Management Plan.
