Issued: April 28, 2023

Ends: May 03, 2023

Townsite avalanche area

Location: Areas west of Cameron Creek along south Evergreen Avenue, as well as adjacent slopes of Bertha Peak, in the Waterton townsite.

The eastern slopes of Bertha Peak have shown an increase in avalanche frequency and size due to changes in tree cover following the 2017 Kenow wildfire. Avalanches on this slope have the potential to affect structures in areas adjacent to Evergreen Avenue past Cameron Falls.

Parks Canada has prepared an avalanche notification specific to this area. Waterton Lakes’ visitor safety staff determine the level of avalanche risk to expect when entering the area.

This area’s current condition is:
Entry not recommended. Avalanches likely.

In all cases, it is important to remember that you are responsible for your own safety in avalanche terrain. Proceed with caution.
