Brass Point Bridge - Upcoming Short-Term Closures and Project Update
Issued: October 24, 2025
Parks Canada is advising the public of two short-term closures of the Brass Point Bridge on October 29 and 30, from 10:00 am to noon each day. These two-hour closures are required to safely replace several bridge deck planks.
Signage is being installed at the bridge in advance, and additional signs will be placed on surrounding roads on the days of the work. Motorists are asked to plan their travel accordingly and to exercise caution in the area.
Project Update
As previously shared, Parks Canada is preparing for the comprehensive replacement of the Brass Point Bridge, which will include the replacement of the swing bridge and rehabilitation of the fixed bridge, upgrades to roadway infrastructure, and repairs to associated bridge components. The project is currently out for tender. While it is unlikely the crossing will close before the end of 2025, Parks Canada anticipates that the selected contractor will be ready to begin construction later this winter. Once the contract is awarded and the contractor’s construction schedule is finalized, Parks Canada will share more information, including details about an upcoming community information session.
The replacement project will require a long-term closure of the crossing to vehicular traffic, expected to begin in early 2026 and conclude by the end of 2027. During construction, a detour route will be provided, and navigation for watercraft on the Rideau Canal will remain open.
Parks Canada appreciates the community’s continued patience and understanding as this important infrastructure renewal project progresses. These efforts will ensure the long-term safety, reliability, and heritage value of this key crossing on the Rideau Canal National Historic Site.
