Area Closure: Jasper National Park, wildfire impacted area. December 1, 2025

What

Pursuant to subsection 36(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, the following area is closed to all traffic and travel by order of the Superintendent:

Where

The following wildfire impacted areas remain closed, as delineated on the attached maps:

Edith Cavell Road and Area: Edith Cavell Road is closed and prohibited to all travel. Trails in the Edith Cavell area are also closed. This includes trail 41 Path of the Glacier and trail 42 Cavell Meadows.

Maligne Canyon: Access to Maligne Canyon trails and surrounding land is prohibited from First Bridge parking lot to the Fifth Bridge junction. Winter access to the canyon for winter recreational activity is prohibited. Fifth bridge road, parking and day use area is also closed. Sixth bridge day use area and surrounding trails are open for use, but there is no through access to fifth bridge.

Old Fort Point to Wabasso Lake corridor (including Valley of the Five Lakes): Trail 1 at Old Fort Point is open for use. Trail 1a remains closed to all use. South along the Athabasca River corridor to the Wabasso Lake Trailhead, front country trails and informal use areas remain closed to all users, including Valley of the Five Lakes (Trail 9/9a) and the section of 12a at the junction of trail 12 to past Jasper House Bungalows. Trail 101 (Wabasso Lake – Curator) also remains closed to all use.

Trail 7: A section of trail 7 behind the golf course, from the junction of trail 7a to the junction of 7e remains closed to all use.

The Palisades Centre: access to the Palisades Centre is prohibited.

Wabasso and Wapiti Campground: Wabasso campground on Highway 93A remains closed. Access to Wapiti campground is restricted to loops AA to H, the rest remains under closure.

The Whistlers bench trails: Trail 5 and 5d are open. A portion of trail 5c (Fast Tracks) is open. Trail 5b (Swamp Rider) is closed.

Maligne Horse Range: access to the area surrounding the Maligne Horse Range is prohibited, however use of the adjacent Overlander Trail (trail 10) is permitted.

Why

To ensure public safety in wildfire impacted areas.

Penalty

Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
