Information Bulletin: Menzie and Baldy Lake prescribed fire completed

Issued: June 10, 2025

WASAGAMING, MANITOBA, JUNE 6, 2025 Parks Canada completed prescribed fire operations in the Menzie and Baldy Lake areas of Riding Mountain National Park.

The prescribed fire will help regenerate approximately 1400 hectares of land and improve the forage for elk, moose, and other grazing wildlife, help to maintain and restore prairie grasslands, and reduce the risk of a high-intensity wildfire happening in Riding Mountain National Park.

The safety of people, infrastructure, and neighbouring lands is always Parks Canada’s priority. The closures in place have now been lifted:

  • Baldy Lake Road and Trail from Park Boundary to Junction with Central Trail.
  • Central Trail (From Long Lake junction to Baldy Lake junction), Baldy Lake Trail, Gunn Lake Trail and Long Lake Trail.
  • Whitewater, Gunn Lake and Long Lake backcountry campsites.

Parks Canada’s National Fire Management Program is a team of professional, highly trained wildland fire management specialists committed to public safety and the stewardship of Parks Canada administered places.
