AREA CLOSURE ORDER: Westside Trail Access
Issued: June 18, 2024
Ends: June 16, 2024
Area closure update - March 28, 2025
The west side trail access in Prince Albert National Park was closed on June 18, 2024 after the Sturgeon River bridge had deteriorated due to age and was further damaged by high water levels in June 2024. On August 22, 2024 Parks Canada completed cosmetic repairs to both the road and bridge. The Sturgeon River access roads and bridge are under the authority of the Rural Municipality (RM) of Big River. Parks Canada and the Rural Municipality of Big River (RM) continue to work together on the future of the Sturgeon River crossing and access to the west side of the park. The RM is conducting a thorough engineering inspection in spring 2025 and, until completed, the west side of Prince Albert National Park remains closed to the public. Results of the engineering assessment will inform options for the future of the bridge that will be considered by the RM of Big River and Parks Canada.
