What:
Pursuant to Section 3 (1)(c) of the Fire Protection Regulations of the Canada National Parks Act, starting or maintaining a fire at Wana Keta is prohibited. Propane/gas camp stoves and lanterns are still permitted and should be used cautiously. This is a site-specific ban and campfires may continue at other locations if contained within designated fire pits. Failure to comply with this prohibition is an offence and may result in a minimum fine of $240. 

Where: 

Wana Keta dock and day use area, Georgian Bay Islands National Park

Why: 
To reduce impacts on the ecological integrity of the park and allow for natural site restoration.

Note:   
Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act and other applicable Provincial/ Federal legislation.
