Parks Canada is working with the Innovative Solutions Canada Program in the Department of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada by offering the visitor centre at Bruce Peninsula National Park as a location where New Earth Solutions, a green infrastructure and nature-based purification company, can test their biofilter living walls. 

The system being installed includes two living walls in the lobby of the visitor centre. The goal is to improve indoor air quality while reducing air ventilation requirements - a forward-thinking application of green technology in a public space that sees thousands of visitors annually.

Installation of the living wall at the visitor centre is scheduled to start on September 15, 2025, and will last approximately five weeks. The visitor centre will be closed to the public on weekdays from September 17 to 19, 2025 and September 22 to 24, 2025. The lookout tower and trails from the visitor centre remain open. Visitor services are being provided on the covered deck outside the visitor centre and a washroom is accessible from an outside door on the western side of the building. Effective Sept 25, 2025 the Visitor Centre will resume operations, with visitor services returning indoors. We appreciate your understanding with associated construction disturbance until this project is completed.

Parks Canada continuously improves buildings and infrastructure for both the safety and comfort of visitors and staff, is constantly exploring opportunities to do so while greening operations and is interested in better understanding how living wall bio-filters impact heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) operations and maintenance through this real-world test.
