Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site, May 17, 2023 – The Jakes Landing floating bridge will not be in place for the 2023 season

We’re building a new bridge at Jakes Landing! The seasonal floating bridge sustained damages in the past few years requiring significant repair, and as at Mill Falls, it became an opportunity to invest in a climate-resilient, 4-season, permanent pedestrian bridge. Preliminary work begins in May.

How this work will affect visitors at Kejimkujik this season

Parks Canada is making every effort to minimize the impacts this project has on visitation. While we try to schedule work outside of peak seasons, the nature of the project, the impact mitigations required, and the relatively short construction season in our northern climate, requires the work to occur during the visitor season.

Trails

There is no bridge at Jakes Landing for the 2023 season, which means there is no trail connection between Jeremy’s Bay Campground and Jakes Landing and Merrymakedge Beach.

This year, visitors can enjoy two separate biking/hiking areas: the Visitor Centre to Jeremy’s Bay Campground, and Jakes Landing to Merrymakedge and beyond.

Jakes Landing day-use area

Jakes Landing day-use area, including the equipment rental concession, will continue to be OPEN for public use and enjoyment. Some pre-construction work (such as testing and archaeology) will require short closures within Jakes Landing day-use area, but the impact to visitors is expected to be minimal.
