Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site

Summer guided experiences are offered in July and August. Fall guided experiences are offered from September 5 to October 5, 2025. Reconnect with the land as you learn about local Mi’kmaw culture, explore the gentle waterways, and experience the depths of the Dark-Sky Preserve in the company of our skilled interpreters.

September 5, 2025 to October 5, 2025

Experience the Petroglyphs (Guided hike) — Registration required

Join a Parks Canada interpreter and learn about Mi’kmaw culture by experiencing the wonder of the petroglyphs on the shores of Kejimkujik Lake.

These fascinating stone-carved depictions make up one of North America’s largest collections and provide vital clues for reconstructing regional history.

The petroglyphs are in a restricted area and the tours are the only way visitors can access them.

The petroglyphs are located on the shoreline and may be hidden when water levels are high.

Weather: Due to safety reasons (wet, slippery rocks), this program is cancelled if it is raining.

Registration: Registration required.

Cost: Free with admission to Kejimkujik.

Duration: 90 minutes.

Location: Merrymakedge P1 parking lot. Meet at the Mi’kmaw Monument at the far end.

Group size: Maximum 20 people. No exceptions.

Ages: Visitors 16 and under require adult accompaniment. Not recommended for children under 12.

Pets: No pets please.

Big Lake, Big Canoe (Guided paddle) — Registration and fees required

Paddle a giant, 38-foot Mi’kmaw-style canoe out into Kejimkujik Lake. This unique experience merges an active paddling adventure with intriguing morsels of cultural and natural history. With skilled and talented guides at the helm, you’ll safely paddle in amongst the islands that dot Kejimkujik Lake.

Weather: This program takes place rain or shine.

Registration: Registration required.

Duration: 2.5 hours.

Location: Meet at the Parks Canada Boathouse at Jakes Landing. Please come a bit early to get suited up!

Group size: Limit of 18 people.

Ages: Visitors 16 and under need adult accompaniment. Not recommended for children under 12.

Pets: No pets please.

Equipment provided: PFDs and paddles provided.

The "Porcupine People" (Mi'kmaw quillwork demonstration)

Mi'kmaw quillwork is a traditional art form that involves using dyed porcupine quills to create intricate designs on various items such as clothing, baskets, and birchbark containers. The Mi'kmaq were so renowned for their quillwork that they were sometimes referred to as the "Porcupine People." Drop-in and watch while this elaborate art form is demonstrated before your eyes.

Weather: This program takes place rain or shine.

Registration: No registration required.

Cost: Free with admission.

Duration: Drop in!

Location: Encampment Site, Merrymakedge P2.

Ages: All ages.

Pets: Pets are allowed if they are quiet, leashed, and controlled.

Stories of the Stars (Dark-Sky program)

For years, humans have been inexplicably drawn to the mystery and beauty of the stars. Our ancestors embedded the fabric of their beliefs and culture into the sky by projecting their heroes and symbols onto stars and made the very first constellations. Join our dark-sky guides to hear some of the intricate stories behind these stars and constellations.

Weather: This program is cancelled if it is raining.

Registration: No registration required.

Cost: Free with admission to Kejimkujik.

Duration: 1 hour.

Where: Sky Circle in Jeremy’s Bay Campground, parking lot P1.

Ages: All ages.

Pets: Pets are allowed outside the Sky Circle only.

What to bring:

  • Red lights only.
  • A blanket or camp chair as there is limited space inside the Sky Circle.

Kejimkujik Campfire Experience – Little Thunder, The Musical

Stories and connections are an essential part of the Kejimkujik camping experience. Cozy up next to some flickering flames and immerse yourself in stories, songs, games, trivia, activities, and theatre, led by Parks Canada interpreters (and visitors)! A timeless tradition is captured here around a campfire in the heart of Kejimkujik.

Weather: This program is cancelled if it is raining.

Registration: No registration required.

Cost: Free with admission to Kejimkujik.

Duration: 1 hour.

Location: Campfire Circle in Jeremy’s Bay Campground, parking lot P2.

Ages: All ages.

Pets: Pets are allowed if they are quiet, leashed, and controlled.

Immerse yourself in stories, songs, games, trivia, activities, and theatre, led by Parks Canada interpreters (and visitors)!
Milamu'kl / Many Colours ("En Plein Air" watercolour painting experience) — Registration and fees required

Join a Parks Canada interpreter/visual artist for a unique “En Plein Air” watercolour painting experience in beautiful Kejimkujik.

Supplied with a "Tisgehdah!" watercolour sample card, brushes, and postcards made from watercolour paper, participants will experience the natural and cultural environment as artists.

Weather: This program takes place rain or shine.

Duration: 90 minutes.

Location: Meet at the Mill Falls picnic shelter.

Ages: Suitable for all ages. Under 16 needs adult accompaniment.

Pets: Pets are allowed if they are quiet, leashed, and controlled.

Registration and cancellations

Registration

Registration is required for some programs due to limited space. Please register at least one hour before the program start time.

Registration opens on May 16, 2025.

Register at the Visitor Centre or call 902-682-2772.

Fees

Many programs are free with admission to Kejimkujik, and some programs require a fee per person.

Cancellations

Cancellations are fully refundable if you cancel 24 hours before the program start time, or if the program is cancelled by Parks Canada staff due to severe weather or low registration.


Tips

Arrive to programs five minutes prior to the start time listed.

Be sure you understand the age requirements for each program offer.

Check to make sure your furry friend is welcome during the program. If pets are allowed on the program please be sure to keep them on a leash at all times and clean up after them.

Come prepared with the appropriate gear and equipment for the program.

Make the Visitor Centre staff aware of any special needs and requirements.

Bring any needed medical equipment or medications to programs.
