WESTERN BROOK POND BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
Gros Morne National Park
Rocky Harbour, NL, October 6, 2022– Parks Canada wishes to advise the travelling public of bridge replacement work taking place in Gros Morne National Park. Starting on Thursday, October 6, 2022, Parks Canada will be working on the replacement of the Western Brook Pond bridge. This project is expected to be completed by June 2024.
Public access to the Western Brook Day-use area will be prohibited during construction, however, a defined pedestrian access will be made available to allow access to the beach from the highway. Parking at this location will be limited for the duration of the bridge replacement project.
A temporary bypass will be erected west of the existing bridge along Highway 430. Construction of this bypass will commence immediately and it will be operational beginning in November. Until this time, motorists can expect construction slowdowns along with flag persons until the temporary bridge is fully operational. The speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h within the construction zone.
Public safety is a priority. Heavy equipment will be working in the area and the public may encounter traffic slowdowns or stoppages while this work is underway. Motorists are advised to travel with caution, obey all on-site signage and posted speed limits, and observe travel instructions from flag persons and safety personnel.
