2023 Instructions for Seasonal Permit Applicants

To receive a 2023 seasonal permit for human-propelled watercraft, you must pass the AIS Prevention Course Quiz and your watercraft must pass an initial inspection to ensure there is no presence of AIS. You have the choice to complete the course from your home or at the Visitor Information Centre.

The 2023 AIS Prevention Course consists of:

From your home:

  1. Watch the AIS Prevention Course video and read the course FAQ resource sheet.
  2. Print the quiz and answer the quiz questions
  3. Bring your watercraft, water equipment, and the completed quiz with you to the Boat Cove Station in Wasagaming, Manitoba. Please ensure that your watercraft and equipment are Clean, Drained, and Dry.
  4. At the Boat Cove Station your quiz answers will be reviewed. Your watercraft and water equipment will be inspected.
  5. If your quiz answers are correct and your watercraft and water equipment pass inspection, you will be issued a seasonal permit.
  6. Seasonal permit holders are expected to be role models of the Clean, Drain, Dry prevention action.

Take the course!


At the Visitor Information Centre:

  1. Go to the reception desk and request the AIS Prevention Course video, course FAQ resource sheet, and course quiz.
  2. Watch the video, read the FAQ resource sheet, then answer the quiz questions.
  3. Bring your completed quiz to the reception desk for review and stamp to certify you have completed the course.
  4. Bring your stamped quiz to the Boat Cove Station with your watercraft and water equipment that you want a seasonal permit for. Please ensure that your watercraft and equipment are Clean, Drained, and Dry.
  5. If your watercraft and water equipment pass inspection, you will be issued a seasonal permit.
  6. Seasonal permit holders are expected to be role models of the Clean, Drain, Dry prevention action.

If you have successfully passed the course in previous years and have been a seasonal permit holder prior to 2023, you may opt to challenge the quiz without watching the video. Boat Cove Station provides inspection of human-propelled watercraft and water equipment daily, starting May long weekend 2023 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. All self-propelled watercraft and water equipment must pass inspection before a permit is issued.
