    Glacier National Park is known as the birthplace of glaciology in Canada dating back to the late 1800s and continues to be a hub for research.

    Come celebrate the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation with a guided hike in the park.

    Take in stunning views of the Illecillewaet and Asulkan Glaciers while discovering fascinating facts about these rivers of ice and those that study them.

    Difficult, very steep, 13.4 km return.

    Balu Pass trail takes you through alpine meadows, avalanche paths, and prime habitat for grizzly bears.

    Each year, between July 15 and September 30, hikers must organise in groups of 4 or more to visit the area. This guided hike reveals the secret world of bear signs.

    Look for bear trails, scat and tracks and learn to travel safely in bear country. There’s no better place for this than Balu Pass trail, named after the Indian word “baloo”, meaning bear.

    Moderately challenging, steep sections, 12.8 km return.
