Construction

Kootenay National Park

There is no cell service in Kootenay National Park. Emergency telephones are available in four locations and clearly marked on highway signage.

This is not an exhaustive list of infrastructure projects underway. Only projects that may impact visitors are listed. Please check Drive BC for current road conditions before you travel. The safety of motorists and workers is Parks Canada’s top priority. Please respect traffic control personnel and reduced speed zones to help keep workers and motorists safe.

Watermain rehabilitation work in Sinclair Canyon

A map showing the construction area. A red line on Highway 93 South shows where in the Sinclair Canyon area traffic impacts can be expected: between McKay Creek Operations Compound and the Iron Gates Tunnel.

This work will help maintain reliable water service for the Radium Hot Springs pools and Redstreak campground, supporting the long-term sustainability of visitor services in Kootenay National Park.

The second phase of this project is expected to begin as soon as September 8, 2025. The first phase was completed in June 2025. This phased approach ensured essential water services remained functional during the busy summer season while minimizing disruptions to motorists.

Phase two will start September 8, 2025 and is anticipated to last until late-October 2025.

  • Work Schedule: Work is expected to occur Monday to Friday from 7 am until 7 pm. Some weekend and night work may be required. Please note that construction projects are dynamic by nature and subject to change. Timelines and activities may shift based on weather conditions, site conditions, and construction progress.
  • Traffic impacts: Traffic management such as single-lane alternating traffic and lane diversions, with a reduced speed limit in the work zone is anticipated for up to 24 hours a day. Visitors should be prepared for delays of up to 15 minutes through Sinclair Canyon on Highway 93 South. Parks Canada will make efforts to minimize delays and traffic impacts. Please check Drive BC for current road conditions before you travel.
  • Radium Hot Springs pools: Visitors should also be prepared for some minor and short-term disruptions to visiting the Radium Hot Springs while construction is being performed on the watermain. Temporary boil water advisories will be required at times to facilitate the work on the watermain. Before you visit, check online and call 1-800-767-1611 for the most up-to-date hours of operation and important notices about the facility.
