Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, and Haida Heritage Site

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic Gwaii Haanas was closed to visitors for the 2020 season. This helped ensure the health and safety of the people of Haida Gwaii, visitors, Haida Gwaii Watchmen and staff.  However, as a result, many good people were affected. Tour operators did not operate, and people could not visit. Ernie Gladstone, Gwaii Haanas Field Unit Superintendent, and Cindy Boyko, Gwaii Haanas Archipelago Management Board Co-chair, recorded a short video message, on behalf of all us.

We have missed you and look forward to seeing you as soon as it is possible.

It is unfortunate that this has been a year that we did not plan for, and travel plans had to change.

Your patience, your understanding and your respect have helped keep Haida Gwaii communities safe.

Haawa and thank you for respecting the public health authority and government directions.

Including travel restrictions that have been in place for Haida Gwaii.

[Cindy Boyko Co-chair Gwaii Haanas Archipelago Management Board; Council of the Haida Nation]

Whether you were coming in your own boat, embarking on a kayak adventure, or had booked a tour with one of our tour operators

We understand that a lot of dreaming and planning has gone into your trip.

We will emerge from this difficult time stronger, wiser, and ready to welcome you back to Gwaii Haanas once again.

[Ernie Gladstone]

Every year we look forward to sharing the spirit and beauty of Gwaii Haanas.

This has been a challenging time for all of us.

We look forward to seeing you again when it is safe for you to travel, and when it is safe for Haida Gwaii communities to welcome you.
