Gulf Islands National Park Reserve
Restricted Activity - Temporary Fire Ban - effective July 12 at noon until further notice

EFFECTIVE DATE:
July 12, 2024, until further notice.
ACTIVITIES PROHIBITED:
Pursuant to section 3(1)(c) of the National Parks of Canada Fire Protection Regulations, the starting and/or maintaining of fires within Gulf Islands National Park Reserve is hereby PROHIBITED by order of the Superintendent of the National Park Reserve.
PROHIBITED:
This fire ban includes ALL campfires, charcoal briquettes, torches, candles, and use of outdoor wood burning stoves including cooking shelters.
EXEMPT:
Provided they are under direct supervision and CSA approved or UL certified:
· Propane or gas fueled stoves and BBQs exclusively designed for cooking
· Portable propane fire pits
· Propane or gas fueled lanterns (enclosed flame)
· Catalytic or infrared style heaters
WHERE:
The Gulf Islands National Park Reserve fire ban has been extended to include SMONEĆTEN and Prior Centennial campgrounds. A year-round campfire ban exists in all other areas of the Park Reserve.
WHY:
For the prevention of wildfire during Elevated Fire Danger conditions in Gulf Islands National Park Reserve.
NOTE:
It is an offence under the Canada National Parks Act to contravene these prohibitions. Failure to comply may result in immediate cancellation of the camping permit, evictions from the campground and violators may be charged.
